Bob Joe, O.D., F.A.A.O.
Dr. Bob Joe has been taking care of Austinites’ eyes since 1976, starting in private practice then ultimately founding what is known today as Austin Optometry Group. Dr. Joe engages in all aspects of primary eye care with an emphasis on ocular disease and contact lens management both of normal eyes and in medically necessary cases. Dr. Joe has built his reputation on his expertise and by delivering excellent results in complex cases, but enjoys all aspects of eye care. He has been certified as a Therapeutic Optometrist and Optometric Glaucoma Specialist for over twenty years. He has been on several investigational panels for contact lens and pharmaceutical companies, has traveled internationally to learn new techniques and technologies, and continues to be a leader in eye care, having served on a panel of optometrists and ophthalmologists discussing new refractive procedures. He has lectured to many groups and companies on eye safety and eye health.
Dr. Joe was born in Amarillo, Texas and earned his doctorate of Optometry from the University of Houston and his undergraduate degree in Microbiology from the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Joe is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, and is a member of several professional organizations: the American Optometric Association and the Contact Lens Section of the AOA, the Texas Optometric Association and the Central Texas Optometric Society, having served in numerous capacities in that Society. Additionally, he is a member of Gold Key International, an optometric honor society, as well as Omicron Delta Kappa, an international collegiate leadership and service society.
When not caring for his patients’ eyes, Dr. Joe enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, all things food, hiking, new experiences and meeting people.
